3rd Easter Sunday (2020) - Bible versions for the sermon text below
John 10:11-16 New International Version (NIV)
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
3rd Easter Sunday 2020 - Sermon Text from David
THE LORD IS MY MASTER
The Bibel´s world and our world are in many ways not the same. When the world was created people, for the most part, lived in an agricultural society. It isn’t that way today. How many of us have had anything to do with sheep? And yet the much loved 23rd psalm has to do with the relationship between sheep and their shepherd. Maybe it would be easier for us to understand the message if it was about dogs not sheep. Dogs we know. Here we will give it a try.
The Lord is my master
He takes good care of me
He gives me good food, a balanced diet
He takes me on long walks
He lets me smell all kinds of things
Thanks to my master´s care I can grow up to be strong
I become obedient and learn many things
So that my master can be proud of me
Even in heavy traffic I am not afraid
You hold strongly in my leash
You know what you are doing
And I can feel safe
When rambunctious dogs come close to where we live
You are so loyal to me that you give me food right in front of their noses
You put healing creams on my sores
And you see to it that my bowls are always full of food and water.
Your goodness and mercy
Shall follow me all the days of my life
And I want to live in the house of my Master
As long as I live
Amen
